Sir Paul McCartney is famed for his incredible musical career – namely in the Beatles and Wings. Many would assume that someone like Sir Paul would never be able to go anywhere without being recognised. But it turns out one film led him to sneak out of his home to watch it on the big screen.
Paul McCartney, in an appearance on US TV show The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, opened up on his thoughts on Yesterday, the latest film from director Danny Boyle and writer Richard Curtis.
The film centres around music from the Beatles, and even features one of the Beatles singers (though sadly, not in the form of a cameo.)
Sir Paul even admitted that, while he did not attend an official screening of it, he was able to sneak into a cinema to catch a screening.
He told Stephen: “People have been saying to us, ‘We’ll give you a screening,’ but I’m not sure I want to go to a screening.
“So Nancy [Paul’s wife] and I said, ‘We’ll just go to the cinema,’ so we did last week I think.”
Colbert was shocked, asking how he was able to get into the film without being detected. Sir Paul clarified: “Well, we crept in.”
He joked the pair were kitted out in hats and glasses to avoid detection, and planned their seat so they were less likely to be spotted.
On the film itself, Sir Paul said: “Well, it’s a pretty good plug for me.
“You know we were sitting at the back of the cinema – we planned that much.
“The guy is sort of saying, ‘This Paul McCartney – greatest songwriter,’ and I’m like…”
At this, Sir Paul let out a little snigger, as if he still has no idea of his incredible talent so many years since the Beatles.
He added: “It was great – it was good way to see it. We wanted to see it with people rather than a corporate screening, so we did. I thought it was a nice movie.”
What is Yesterday about?

Yesterday, written by Richard Curtis and directed by Danny Boyle, follows a struggling singer/songwriter, Jack, who is tempted to give up altogether.
Suddenly, a freak accident mixed with a global blackout leads to a magical occurrence: no one has heard of the Beatles.
As a result, Jack begins to perform these songs and pass them off as his own, and becomes successful to the extent that he is invited to perform with Ed Sheeran on his tour.
Eventually, the pull of the spotlight is too much for him, and he eventually goes to meet John Lennon, who lived to an old age and was out of the spotlight in this alternate universe.
At this, Jack realises he does not need fame and fortune, and ends up uploading the songs free to the internet and becoming a music teacher.
Yesterday is in selected cinemas now and is set for DVD release on November 4
