Incident Details at Kuykendall Stadium
Austin Metcalf, a junior from Memorial High School within the Frisco Independent School District (ISD), was present at the University Interscholastic League (UIL) District 11-5A championship track meet held at Kuykendall Stadium on April 2. The deadly attack occurred during a confrontation in the stadium stands between Metcalf and 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony, a senior at Centennial High School.
Seat Dispute Escalates to Fatal Stabbing
According to Jeff Metcalf, Austin’s father, the altercation began when Anthony was purportedly informed he was occupying the incorrect seat. Anthony allegedly reacted by brandishing a knife and initiating an assault, stabbing Austin Metcalf in the chest as his twin brother, Hunter, witnessed the horrific scene.
Twin Brother’s Desperate Attempt to Help
Hunter Metcalf, born moments after Austin, immediately rushed to his brother’s aid but was unable to save him.
“I tried to turn around as quickly as I could,” a distraught Hunter Metcalf recounted. “I looked at my brother… I tried to help him.”
Jeff Metcalf described the agonizing scene: “They were identical twins, and his brother was holding onto him, trying to stop the bleeding, and he died in his brother’s arms.”
Father Recounts Horrifying Aftermath
Hunter Metcalf contacted his parents to inform them of the stabbing. Their father raced to the stadium stands, discovering Austin on a stretcher, unresponsive.
“I could see all the blood, and I saw the wound, and I was very concerned. I had to find his brother, and we rushed to the hospital. We prayed, and it’s God’s plan, I don’t understand it, but they were unable to save him. This is murder,” Jeff Metcalf stated.
Athlete Pronounced Dead, Suspect Arrested
Austin Metcalf was pronounced dead at a nearby medical facility.
“Despite resuscitation efforts by law enforcement and fire department personnel, including CPR and blood administration, the (17)-year-old succumbed to his injuries,” the Frisco Police Department reported.
Karmelo Anthony was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the fatal stabbing.
He is currently detained at the Collin County Jail without bond.
Father’s Message of Forgiveness Amidst Grief
The bereaved father expressed his anguish and questioned the suspect’s upbringing, while also offering forgiveness to his son’s alleged assailant.
“I’m not trying to judge, but what kind of parents did this child have? What was he taught? He brought a knife to a track meet and murdered my son by stabbing him in the heart. The individual was in the wrong seat, and when asked to relocate, he became aggressive. This is murder,” Jeff Metcalf asserted.
“You know what, I already forgive this person. Already. God takes care of things. God is going to take care of me. God is going to take care of my family,” he added, demonstrating remarkable grace in the face of tragedy.

Karmelo Anthony, a defensive back, had previously indicated on social media receiving college offers, primarily from Division III institutions.
Austin Metcalf is being remembered as an exceptional linebacker who had attracted interest from various colleges and aspired to pursue football at the college level.
He was recently recognized as his team’s Most Valuable Player and maintained a stellar 4.0 GPA, as detailed in a GoFundMe campaign established by his father.
