Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho casts doubt on Paul Pogba for Sevilla clash

Manchester United travel to Sevilla on Wednesday night (7.45pm) and will be hoping to continue the English club’s fine form in Champions League this season.

Liverpool got a devastating 5-0 win away at Porto in midweek, while Tottenham also earned a 2-2 draw against Juventus at the Allianz Stadium.

But the Red Devils could be forced to play without Paul Pogba who missed the FA Cup clash with Huddersfield this weekend due to illness.

And Jose Mourinho has admitted he is not sure if the France international will be well enough to face the Spanish side.

When asked if Pogba would be ready for the trip to Sevilla, Mourinho told BBC Sport: “I don’t know, I didn’t see him.

“Yesterday he was working normally with us.

“We prepared for the game, we gave the last touches in the tactical, positional play, we gave the last touches on the set-plays and I told the players the team.

“He was in the team but this morning he was not feeling right to play. So he’s ill and now we have to wait to see what is going on.”

Manchester United issued a statement on their official website this morning claiming Pogba would miss the Huddersfield game due to illness.

And the 24-year-old insisted on Twitter it was merely sickness that had ruled him out.

“Gutted I won’t be at Huddersfield but I need to get better. Come on United,” he wrote.

Reports this week suggested Pogba could be on his way out at Old Trafford after falling out with Mourinho over not being allowed to play in a 4-3-3 formation.

But Mourinho dismissed the rumours as “bull****’ in his press conference ahead of the FA Cup clash with Huddersfield.

“I would like you to tell me which position Pogba played in against Newcastle,” Mourinho asked the media.

“We played with one six and two eights. We played with Matic as a six, Lingard on the right side of Matic and Pogba on the left side.

“Do you know which is the Pogba’s preferred system? Four-three-three. Do you know Pogba’s favourite position in a 4-3-3? Eight on the left, so it’s easy and honest and objective to say Paul didn’t play well against Newcastle, but don’t let people read things that are not true.

“You are paid to read the game and explain the game. Don’t say bulls***.”
