Carol Vorderman: ‘My heart breaks’ Countdown host addresses ‘crazy’ incident on Twitter

Carol Vorderman, 58, shared an emotional post about the Bristol Balloon Fiesta this morning after several mass ascents were cancelled due to extreme weather conditions. The event began on Thursday morning, with over 60 balloons taking to the skies over Bristol. However, the fiesta was suddenly disrupted as strong winds and heavy downpours of rain hit the city over the weekend. The former Countdown presenter, who lives in Bristol, took to Twitter to address the “heartbreaking” incident in view of her 408,000 followers.

She wrote: “My heart breaks for the wonderful people of Bristol @bristolballoon Fiesta.

“The city is full but crazy winds and heavy rain have stopped the balloons going up so far.”

“We’re all crossing fingers for tonight’s mass ascent. It’s one of the most stunning things to see anywhere,” Carol added.

Fans took to the comments section to share their thoughts about the news.

One person wrote: “I agree Carol. Was in the city myself yesterday and was so upset by the storms. My heart went out as we passed the Ashton Court Estate. Weather looks a little better today.”

Another added: “Winds need to be below 10-12 to be safe for flying. Under 10 is preferred. Fingers crossed the wind drops. We seem to have better weather earlier in the summer, maybe we need to consider a change to the date.”

“Let’s hope the wind dies down and they can get the balloons up then,” a third Twitter user commented.

A fourth person replied: “Very sensibly they moved the mass ascent to Thursday morning… 57 went up I think… saw them in the distance in Bath… weather has been appalling though.”

Carol Vorderman’s comments about the Bristol Balloon Fiesta come after the presenter shared a heartfelt farewell to one of her “favourite” things.

The TV and radio personality opened up about feeling “sad” on the micro-blogging site during her final hike wearing a pair of very worn out boots.

She shared a selection of photos to document the moment including one of her feet resting on a boat on the beach and another picture as she peeled back the worn out sole of her beloved shoes.

The star also smiled for a selfie in a sun hat in front of a picturesque countryside backdrop.

Carol captioned the bittersweet snaps: “I think my favourite hiking shoes and I did our last 15 miler together today…

“We must have walked well over 1,000 miles together… the Proclaimers would be proud…”

Referencing the band’s hit song, she added: “We walked 500 miles and then we walked 500 more… a bit sad to see them go.”

Fans empathised with Carol’s situation, as one wrote back: “Like losing an old friend isn’t it? Just remember the good times…”

Another Twitter user agreed: “Yes but they have done you proud!! Give them a decent send off.”
