Borussia Dortmund chief CONFIRMS Arsenal bid for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as a replacement for Manchester United-bound Alexis Sanchez.

The Gabon international was dropped for Dortmund’s squad on Friday for the 1-1 draw at Hertha Berlin, suggesting he could be on the move.

And the German club’s CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has since confirmed the Gunners have made a bid for the 28-year-old.

Initial reports suggest the offer is in the region of £45million but Watzke refused to comment on the fee.

“I can confirm that there has been a first request from Arsenal for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang,’ he told Dortmund-based newspaper Ruhr Nachrichte.

“We are not commenting on the sums that have been called from England since noon today.”

The admission comes just days after Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc dismissed talk of Aubameyang making the move to the Premier League club.

He called the deal “rubbish” and accused Arsene Wenger of being “disrespectful” for speaking about the striker in his press conference this week.

“There is nothing really concrete on the table. There’s a lot of rubbish,” Zorc said.

“We consider it disrespectful to speak about players from other clubs.

“There is no contact with Arsenal.

“We assume that Wenger has enough to do dealing with his own players.”
