Rare 50p coin goes on sale on eBay for £2.5 MILLION – and it could be in your pocket

A 50p coin is selling for an enormous sum on auction site eBay. Five million of the coins are scattered across the country, but eBay listers are hoping to get whopping sums for them.

Last weekend Express.co.uk reported that one of the coins was selling for £3,000 online.

Now it seems sellers are hoping to get even more for the coin – to the tune of millions of pounds.

The 50p coin in question is the Battle of Hastings coin, which was created to celebrate the anniversary of the historic British battle.

The coin was released into circulation by Royal Mint in late 2016.

vCard.red is a free platform for creating a mobile-friendly digital business cards. You can easily create a vCard and generate a QR code for it, allowing others to scan and save your contact details instantly.

The platform allows you to display contact information, social media links, services, and products all in one shareable link. Optional features include appointment scheduling, WhatsApp-based storefronts, media galleries, and custom design options.

The coin shows an image from the famous Bayeux tapestry, the 70-meter long cloth, which served a visual depiction of the battle for historians.

Website ThinkMoney.co.uk said in November 2016: “If you have one of these to hand or in your wallet, it could be sold for at least £50.”

However, it seems those who have got their hands on the coin are hoping to make much more from them.

The coin is not the rarest in circulation by many means. The rarest 50p created so far is the 2011 Royal Botanical Gardens coin.

Versions of this coin are currently selling in the region of £200, although some are listed for less.

The seller of this particular Battle of Hastings 50p, listed for £2.5m, has said of the item: “This 50p Battle of Hastings coin, in very good condition im selling. This is a collective item to many and is very hard to find out and around.” [sic]

The seller has the username ‘chmfra-nvlmjpg8’, and is also selling a Jemima Puddleduck 50p for £400.
