Star Wars 8 leaks: Rey’s new DOUBLE-ENDED lightsaber shock – Guess what COLOUR it is?

Star Wars fans are eagerly awaiting the upcoming Last Jedi trailer. It will be devoured for clues, revelations and plot hints for Episode 8.

It’s not only the main film teasers and articles that are being mined for information, however.

As Force Friday 2 approaches next week, official Star Wars merchandise is about to flood the market.

Many items have already been leaked and the latest one appear to reveal enormous information about what happens to Rey in The Last Jedi.

WARNING: POTENTIAL SPOILERS

A new toy from the Star Wars Forces of Destiny range seems to provide two massive revelations.

Star Wars Forces of Destiny is an animated series which is officially canon and expands the entire Star Wars universe. Everything in the show is directly related to the movies and associated novelisations.

The leaked image shows a young girl holding Rey’s lightsaber but it has been totally modified and is also a different colour from anything that was shown in The Force Awakens.

The leaked image was sent to Star Wars Youtube channel Mike Zeroh.

He said: “(in) this image of Star Wars Forces of Destiny product, it looks like the lightsaber is attached to the staff.

“We heard a couple of months ago that Rey will modify the Skywalker lightsaber in this film. Is she modifying to such a degree that she attached it to the staff? It would make a lot of sense for her. She knows how to use the staff very well. She grew up with it on Jakku. We saw her fight off those guys in the village on Jakku (in The Force Awakens).”

“She attaches it to one side of the staff where its not like a double-bladed lightsaber its like a staff lightsaber where it only ignites from one end.”

“The Forces of Destiny show will expand The Last Jedi in the future. This could be a product for the future after the film releases. I’m not 100% that this will happen in the film but it’s a great possibility.”

So far, in the teaser trailer and behind the scenes footage Rey has been shown training with a traditional lightsaber.

The other startling thing shown in the promotional images is that the lightsaber blade in not the Skywalker light blue or green. Nor, thankfully, is it red.

This new version of Rey’s lightsaber is purple.

Until now the only creature in the entire galaxy who had a purple blade was Mace Windu. This was apparently one of Samuel L Jackson’s conditions for taking the role – he wanted his lightsaber to be easily visible in any group scenes.

However some fans have already pointed out that purple corresponds with the imagery in the official Last Jedi poster. In the already iconic shot shot, Rey is holding a blazing lightsaber aloft. She is haloed in blue but red dominates the entire poster and where the two colours merge the light shines purple.

Will Rey’s new blade be purple to symbolise that she is the one to bring balance and harmony to both sides of the Force?
