Canelo vs GGG: Adalaide Byrd pulled from major fights after controversial scorecard

Byrd called the fight a 118-110 victory for Alvarez leading to Golovkin branding her bad for boxing.

The other two judges scored it 115-113 in favour of Golovkin and 114-114.

And Bob Bennett, the Nevada Athletic Commission executive director, has revealed she is being taken off big fights

“I’m not going to put her right back in,” Bennett told the Los Angeles Times

“She’ll still be in the business … but she needs to catch her breath.”

He added: “Like in any profession, you have a bad night.

“Unfortunately, she didn’t do well.

“I can tell you she conducts training for us, takes judges under her wing… but her score was too wide.”

Golovkin and Alvarez are set for a rematch after what many have described as the fight of the year at the T Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The fight went the distance and showcased two stars of the sport going blow for blow in a win for the purists after the hyped up Floyd Mayweather victory over Conor McGregor last month.

But it still left a bad taste in the mouth following Byrd’s call.

Golovkin claimed the decision was bad for sport.

“I saw computer, all total punches, I saw people’s reaction,” he said.

“It’s terrible, for me it’s terrible. This is not correct, this is very bad for the sport.”

Alvarez’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya also hit out, claiming he couldn’t understand the scoring.

He said: “These guys fought their heart out, Gennady is a tremendous, tremendous champion and Canelo’s a tremendous, tremendous champion. Everybody has their opinion but that’s what made it such a great, great fight.

“The 118-110, I don’t understand, I really don’t. Byrd is a very competent judge but I just don’t understand 118-110. I had Canelo winning seven-five. 118-110 is a shocker.”
