According to The Mirror, George’s family have confirmed he died at a nursing home on 16 November. His cause of death is currently unknown. During his career, George held a recurring role as businessman Willie Piggott in ITV’s Coronation Street from 1964-1971. The late actor is also widely known for playing caretaker Mr Griffiths in BBC series Grange Hill from 1985-1992.
Throughout his career, which spanned over three decades, he also starred in the likes of Casualty, Heartbeat, Avengers, The Saint, Steptoe and Son, Public Eye, Rising Damp and Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em.
George also appeared on the West End stage.
He starred as Geoffrey Fisher, the stern father in Billy Liar, in 1960.
He also starred in the sitcom for year from 1973.

He is survived by his son Adam, who he had with his late-wife Shirley.
