‘Brussels got it WRONG’ Defiant Salvini’s stern EU warning – Italy budget ‘WON’T CHANGE’

The eurosceptic Deputy Prime Minister claimed Italian citizens would never accept the Commission to sanction over the rejected Budget proposal of their Government. Mr  argued it was unreasonable for Brussels to “lecture Europe and Italy” as Jean-Claude Juncker’s Commission prepares to leave office ahead of the European election next May. The Italian Interior Minister pledged the controversial budget plan will be submitted unchanged.

He said: “We can add more investments to the budget, as we have experienced the bad weather of the last few days, not because Brussels asks us to but because if mountains start crumbling more money is needed.

“But the parameters won’t change, the measures on jobs, taxes, education and police forces won’t change.

“I don’t think that a Commission with removal boxes and packed suitcases ready to leave could lecture Europe or Italy after years of disasters.

“We go ahead with total serenity and tranquillity.

“If anyone in Brussels thinks they can commission or sanction us they got it wrong.

“Italian citizens would never accept it.”

Brussels is concerned Rome’s budget proposals would increase Italy’s public debt burden due to the planned boost in spending.

The bloc demanded Rome comes up with a revised budget, but Italy has continued to insist it must increase its deficit to 2.4 percent, which breaks EU fiscal rules designed to protect the Eurozone.

Commissioner Mr Moscovici said: “I want a dialogue, but sanctions can be finally applied if we cannot reach an agreement.

“On the 13th of November we expect a strong, precise answer from the Italian government.”

Mr Moscovici said the next step for Italy depends on the country’s budget response.

He has said: “The ball is now in Italy’s court.

“Member states must fully respect national democratic choices, but they should not run counter to our rules.”
