Midterm elections New Jersey polls 2018: Who will win in New Jersey?

New Jersey has a population of just over 9million people and it is largely considered to be a Democratic stronghold.

Democrats have won all 19 elections to statewide offices that have occurred since the early 2000s.

But which candidates are being touted to win at each level?

Senate

The State of New Jersey has two seats in the Senate and only one is up for election on Tuesday.

Most eyes will be looking at the race between incumbent Democrat Bob Menedez and the Republican Bob Hugin.

Mr Menedez has held his seat since 2006, but allegations of corruption have recently overshadowed his politics.

The corruption trial happened about a year ago, and ended in with a hung jury and a mistrial.

His challenger, Mr Hugin, is the former executive chair of Celgene, a biopharmaceutical company.

A new poll showed a significant lead for Mr Menedez – 94.6 percent to 5.4 percent.

House

All 435 seats in the House of Representatives are up for re-election.

New Jersey has a total number 12 seats and it appears the chance of winning for the Democrats is “solid”.

Here is a breakdown of the current forecast, according to Five Thirty Eight:

Two seats are ‘solid’ Democrats – Albio Sires and Bill Pascrell Jr.

One seat is ‘likely’ Republican – Chris Smith.

Two seats are ‘solid’ Democrats – Frank Pauline Jr. and Bonnie Watson Coleman.

Three districts are expected to flip from red to blue.

Governor

The New Jersey gubernatorial election was held in 2017.

Incumbent Republican Governor Chris Christie, who was re-elected to a second term in 2013, was term-limited and could not run for a third consecutive term.

Phil Murphy, banker and former US Ambassador to Germany, won the Democratic primary.
