Finance chief trashes Donald Trump’s claim markets will CRASH if US President impeached

Speaking to Fox News, claimed it would be absurd to impeach a US President who has achieved as much as he has during his presidential term for the economy of his country.

The US President said he would give himself an “A+” if asked to grade his performance in office so far, citing his successful appointment of Justice Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court and predicting that Brett Kavanaugh, his next high court pick, will be confirmed as well.

He said: “I don’t know how you could impeach somebody who’s done a great job.

“I’ll tell you what if I ever got impeached the market would crash.

“I think everybody would be very poor. Because without this thinking you would see numbers that you wouldn’t believe.”

Despite the US President’s claim, investors are not in panic mode.

JP Gravitt, chief executive of research firm Market Realist, claimed investors would “have to suppose that Trump is responsible for everything good in the market to suppose that the opposite would be true.”

He added: “Second, we would have to know with a capital K that he will be gone and when any changes would be made to reverse his policies.”

According to Market Watch, stocks have drifted slightly lower but have largely held their ground in the wake of the scandal currently engulfing the White House.

The S&P 500 SPX, -0.20% ended less than 0.1% lower on Wednesday after flipping between small gains and losses, remaining not far below its all-time high, while the Dow industrials DJIA, -0.33% shed 0.3%. Stocks on Thursday gave up early gains to turn slightly lower.

During his interview, the US President added: “I give myself an A+. I don’t think any President has ever done what I have done.

“We haven’t even been 2 years. Biggest tax cuts in history. Soon to be two unbelievable Supreme Court justices, I’m sure that Justice Kavanaugh will be approved.

“Justice Gorsuch has been a star.

“You look at all the things we have done with regulations, the economy is the best it has ever been in history.

“The only thing I’m doing badly in is the press doesn’t cover me fairly.”

Mr Trump’s interview comes after news broke that his former attorney Michael Cohen had entered a guilty plea to campaign finance violations.

At the same time, a jury had convicted former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort on eight counts of various financial crimes.
