‘Manchester United will sack Jose Mourinho because of Paul Pogba’ – EXCLUSIVE

Mourinho attempted to shut down rumours of a growing feud between himself and Pogba yesterday by claiming he has “no problems at all” and that he has “never been so happy with him as I am now”.

The comments came as the latest instalment in a long-running saga that Pogba stoked by claiming after the opening Premier League game of the season that he could not speak his mind about the manager for fear of getting fined.

The unrest has seen Pogba linked with a move to Barcelona, still possible with the Spanish transfer window open until the end of the month.

However, BT Sport pundit Jermaine Jenas does not believe there is any risk of the former Juventus midfielder leaving Old Trafford this summer, with Mourinho’s own exit far more likely.

“I can only see going one way unfortunately. I don’t think it will go Mourinho’s way,” Jenas exclusively told Express Sport.

“I think they would [rather get rid of Mourinho] because as a club it makes more sense to do so.

“Players are so powerful these days and then there’s the amount of money that Paul Pogba makes that football club, the amount of pull in terms of players coming to the club with Pogba there, the fact he makes them genuinely better as a team.

“They can replace Mourinho with another very good manger, there are plenty out there, and that’s the unfortunate position we’re in.

“I think Mourinho is also quite stubborn and I still think he’s right to be that way.

“I think some of the best managers in the world have that about them and they know what’s right, what’s wrong and what they need to win games. If they don’t get it, they’re not happy.

“That’s all that’s happened with Mourinho this year. He knows he’s not got enough to win the league.”

United were far from their best on the opening night of the season, scraping past Leicester with a 2-1 win at Old Trafford including a penalty from Pogba, who bore the captain’s armband on the night in absence of club skipper Antonio Valencia.

Pogba was lauded by players and manager alike for his leadership role in France’s World Cup triumph and Jenas is worried that the spat with Mourinho and speculation over the player’s future could jeopardise his good form.

“There is no way Manchester United are going to sell Paul Pogba to Barcelona in this window when they’ve got nobody to replace him with. It’s not happening,” Jenas added.

“So part of me goes ‘Paul, if you’ve got something to say, just say it because you’ve got plenty of money in the bank so you can pay the fine’.

“But part of me also goes ‘why? Just keep your mouth shut and get on with the football’.

“Everything has been going so well. He’s just come off the back of a brilliant World Cup, people’s thought process towards you now in England is very different from how it was when he left for the tournament.

“There were issues around whether he was a luxury or not.

“But he’s gone to the World Cup, put in brilliant performances, lifted the trophy and I want him to continue that at Manchester United.”
