Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic to play DOUBLES? Rafael Nadal decision thrills fans

Federer played with his great rival Rafael Nadal in last year’s inaugural competition as they teamed up to beat Americans Sam Querrey and Jack Sock.

But this year Nadal has decided to instead focus on playing the Davis Cup instead.

Team Europe are far from hard done by in terms of replacements, though, with 13-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic being called into the side.

And it’s left tennis supporters dreaming of one thing – Federer and Djokovic playing doubles with one another.

“Last year we watched an epic doubles team of Fed and Rafa. Will it be Nole and Fed this year?? Fingers crossed,” tweeted one.

A fellow fan pondered: “Imagine trying to beat Fed at the net and Novak at the baseline. Literally impossible.”

“Forget Fedal, we want Djokerer!” joked another.

Federer and Djokovic were confirmed alongside Alexander Zverev, Grigor Dimitrov and David Goffin in Bjorn Borg’s Team Europe last week.

The tournament will take place in Chicago next month with Zverev making his second appearance in the event.

He said: “I enjoyed being part of the Laver Cup in Prague last year and I am looking forward to joining the team again, this time in Chicago, to defend our title with some great teammates.

“It’s fantastic to have the chance to be teammates, supporting each other instead of competing against each other. This is a fun format and I’m excited to be playing the Laver Cup again.”

While Bulgarian Dimitrov will make his debut for Borg’s team.

“I can’t wait to join all these great players to take on Team World in the Laver Cup in Chicago,” he added.

“It’s such an honor to be sharing the court with this incredible group of players, and to have the chance to play on the same team with them.”
