Jeremy Corbyn wreath row ‘EXTREMELY GRAVE’ says French commentator – ‘CROSSED red lines’

The Munich massacre, which saw 11 members of the terrorist group “Black September” torture – and then murder – 11 Israeli athletes in their Olympic village apartment in 1972, was “particularly barbaric,” Mr Thiériot, an UK politics expert, told the French daily Le Figaro.

He said: “In the name of his support for the Palestinian cause, the leader of one of the UK’s biggest political parties knowingly paid tribute to terrorists and to assassins. In the current security context, this truth is very preoccupying and extremely shocking.”

In the 2014 photographs published by the Daily Mail last week, Mr Corbyn can be seen holding a wreath near the graves of the terrorists responsible for the Munich killings, who are buried in a cemetery in Tunisia.

In one of the pictures, Mr Corbyn can be seen close to the grave of Atef Bseiso, the former intelligence chief of the Palestine Liberation Organisation who was also linked to the Munich bloodbath. Another image shows the left-winger apparently joining in an Islamic prayer.

Mr Corbyn initially said he had attended a ceremony for those killed by an Israeli air strike on the Palestine Liberation Organisation offices in Tunis in 1985, but was later forced to admit he had also been “present” at a memorial event for the Munich terrorists.

“I laid one wreath along with many other people,” Mr Corbyn said, a day after being ridiculed for claiming: “I don’t think I was involved.”

“Mr Corbyn cannot pretend he didn’t know [he was taking part in the ceremony],” Mr Thiériot continued.

The UK politics expert also accused the Labour leader of “crossing too many red lines”.

“Mr Corbyn has forged close ties with both Hamas and Hezbollah, which are, it should be recalled, terrorist groups which are firing rockets at Israel’s civilian population,” he said.

The political scientist also warned that the UK terror threat level remains severe, after a suspected jihadist deliberately drove a car into London pedestrians and cyclists before ramming it into barriers outside parliament on Tuesday.

“The [terror threat] is very high. Five terror attacks took place in 2017. And although no attacks have been launched this year, 12 have been foiled.

“What happened [on Tuesday] in Westminster shows that the sword of Damocles is still hanging over Europe. And this harsh reality makes Jeremy Corbyn’s complacent attitude towards terrorists all the more serious,” Mr Thiériot said.

The Westminster attack suspect was identified on Wednesday morning as 29-year-old Salih Khater, a British citizen of Sudanese origin.
