Nintendo Subpoenas Discord to Unmask User Behind Major Pokémon Leak

Game Freak Acknowledges Security Incident
Following the initial dissemination of leaked materials, Game Freak released a public statement on October 10 acknowledging a hacking incident. The developer confirmed that over 2,000 pieces of employee data were subjected to “unauthorized access by a third party.” However, the company’s statement notably omitted the fact that a considerable amount of private data concerning ongoing Pokémon franchise projects was also compromised during the security breach. The wider scope of the leak, extending beyond employee information, was revealed in the subsequent days as unreleased Pokémon designs, associated lore, internal developer discussions, and other sensitive materials began circulating across Discord, 4chan, Reddit, and various other social media platforms.
Details of the “Teraleak” Content
Among the most prominent revelations from the leaks were references to the next generation (Gen 10) of Pokémon games, reportedly codenamed “Gaia” and intended for Nintendo’s succeeding console. Furthermore, the leak purportedly included highly sensitive data not publicly disseminated by “GameFreakOUT,” such as the supposed source code for the upcoming 2025 Switch title, Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
