Dave Coulier Celebrates Cancer Remission on Grandson’s Birth Day
Actor Dave Coulier, best known for his role in “Full House,” received extraordinary news on the day his grandson was born: he is cancer-free. The 65-year-old revealed on the “How Rude, Tanneritos!” podcast that he learned of his remission from stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma in late March, coinciding with the arrival of his grandchild.
Joyous News Amidst Family Milestone
“I got the good news the day the baby was born,” Coulier shared with podcast hosts Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber. He recounted the emotional day, stating, “So I heard the news and I was so excited, and then [his son] Luc called us and he said, ‘Hey, the baby just was born.’ And so, I mean, it was an amazing day.”
Coulier, expressing his elation, added, “So we were like, ‘Oh, this is just too much!’”
Luc, 34, and his wife Alex welcomed their son, Chance Lee, on March 27. Chance is Coulier’s first grandchild, born to Luc, whom Coulier shares with his former wife Jayne Modean.
Describing his grandson, Coulier remarked, “My gosh, he’s a really healthy, healthy, great little baby,” noting Chance’s healthy weight at birth. He mentioned plans to meet his grandson in late April. Coulier resides in Michigan with his wife Melissa Coulier, while Luc, a FedEx pilot, lives with his family in Sacramento.
Battling Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma: A Journey to Remission
Earlier in April, during a previous appearance on “How Rude, Tanneritos,” Coulier openly discussed the challenging period between his cancer diagnosis in October 2024 and achieving remission this spring. He described the arduous chemotherapy process: “It was this journey of, ‘OK, let’s make it through the rounds of chemotherapy,’ and you know, they say they have to kill you in order to save your life, and there were times where I felt like I don’t know how many more of these I can do.”
Coulier detailed the debilitating side effects of his cancer treatment, including:
- Hair loss
- Neuropathy
- Muscle cramps and spasms
- Dizziness
- Vertigo
Wife’s Support: A Pillar of Strength
Coulier recounted the intense physical toll of chemotherapy, recalling, “After his third round of chemo, ‘it just started to hit me where I couldn’t get out of bed. I had shortness of breath. I was really weak. I was just like, ‘Wow, this is really doing a number on me.’”
He expressed deep gratitude for his wife, Melissa, 41, acknowledging her unwavering support during his cancer battle. “Coulier said that his wife, Melissa… ‘took care of me. I’d have night sweats and she’d go, ‘We gotta change these sheets again.’ And, ‘Here’s a cold compress and here’s your food and here’s your drugs.’ And I mean, she micro-managed this in such a way that I will forever be grateful to her, the way she so valiantly plowed through this.”
Reflecting on his experience, Coulier concluded, “I learned how incredible my wife is. And I also learned just how much a positive attitude can help you plow through things.”
