Texas Teen Accused in Track Star Stabbing Death Shelters in Upscale Gated Community

FRISCO, Texas – A Texas teenager, charged with the fatal stabbing of a high school track athlete, is residing in a luxurious gated community in a residence valued at $900,000. This living arrangement contrasts sharply with claims of limited financial resources that were presented to a judge to secure his release from jail.

Controversial Release and House Arrest

Karmelo Anthony, 17, was released from custody following a contentious judicial decision to lower his bond. He faces charges related to the stabbing death of Austin Metcalf at a track and field event on April 2. The terms of Anthony’s release mandate house arrest and electronic monitoring via an ankle bracelet.

Track Meet Altercation Leads to Tragedy

According to local law enforcement, the deadly confrontation between Metcalf and Anthony occurred at a high school track meet. The incident reportedly began when Metcalf challenged Anthony, who attended a different school, for sitting under their team’s designated tent.

The situation escalated when Metcalf demanded Anthony’s departure, culminating in Anthony allegedly producing a knife and stabbing the Memorial High School junior in the chest. Metcalf succumbed to his injuries at the scene, in the presence of his twin brother.

Life in an Exclusive Enclave

Currently, Anthony is residing in a Frisco dwelling on Mercedes Lane, within the exclusive Richwoods gated community. Property records indicate the family is renting the home at an estimated monthly cost of $3,500.

Reporters observed multiple vehicles at the residence during a recent visit, including a white SUV, a black Acura, and another sedan. A neighbor indicated the family had recently acquired a new vehicle.

Contradiction in Financial Claims

This affluent lifestyle appears to contradict statements made in court by Anthony’s father, Andrew Anthony. During a hearing, the elder Anthony asserted limited financial capacity, claiming to be the family’s sole provider.

Prosecutors questioned the father regarding the utilization of over $434,000 in donated funds, ostensibly intended for his son’s defense, to cover the initially set $1 million bond. Andrew Anthony stated he lacked access to these donated funds and intended to allocate them towards legal representation for his son.

Neighbors React to Accused Teen Killer’s Presence

Many residents of the upscale neighborhood were reportedly unaware of the Anthony family’s presence in their community until Karmelo Anthony’s return from jail. Richwoods is situated near Centennial High School, Anthony’s former school where he participated in track and field and captained the football team.

Neighboring residents have expressed unease and apprehension regarding Anthony’s presence. One resident commented that this community is perceived as safe and questioned why someone who would commit such an act is now living nearby. She also raised concerns about safety within the gated community.

Another neighbor questioned the family’s request for public donations while seemingly maintaining a high-end lifestyle within the affluent gated community, stating definitively, “They’re not poor people. That’s for sure.”

Deliveries and Activity at the Anthony Residence

Throughout a recent day, frequent deliveries were observed at the Anthony home, including multiple visits from Amazon delivery services and a pizza delivery during lunchtime. Additionally, an adult male was seen departing the residence with luggage in the morning and had not returned at the time of observation.

The Anthony family’s legal counsel has stated that a portion of the donated funds would be allocated for relocation expenses and additional security measures due to reported threats received following Metcalf’s death. One neighbor suggested relocation would be “best for everyone.”
