Karmelo Anthony: Background
Karmelo Anthony is a 17-year-old residing in Frisco, Texas, who stands accused of first-degree murder related to Austin Metcalf’s death.
Details of the Alleged Incident
Anthony is accused of fatally stabbing Metcalf at a track and field meet in Frisco in early April 2025. Reports from CBS News, citing eyewitness accounts, indicate an argument between Metcalf and Anthony preceded the incident. Anthony reportedly brandished a knife and stabbed Metcalf once in the chest. At the scene on April 2, Anthony cooperated with law enforcement and was taken into custody. While in police custody, Anthony reportedly inquired about Metcalf’s condition. Metcalf was later pronounced dead.
Two weeks following the incident, Anthony was released from the Collin County jail. A judge granted his release after lowering his bond from $1 million to $250,000. According to CBS News reports, the conditions of Anthony’s release mandate that he wear an electronic ankle monitor, remain confined to his parents’ residence, be under constant adult supervision, and refrain from contacting fellow students.

Both the Metcalf and Anthony families were present at the court hearing where Anthony’s bond and release were discussed.
According to The Independent, Anthony’s defense lawyer, Mike Howard, suggested in a public statement that his client may claim self-defense.
“Every Texan has the right to self-defense when they genuinely fear for their life,” Howard informed members of the press. “Self-defense is a right that applies to everyone. There are always multiple perspectives to consider in any situation. Karmelo is a 17-year-old student with an excellent academic record. He holds leadership positions as captain of both the track and football teams. This event is a tragedy for all involved families.”
A GoFundMe fundraising campaign reportedly initiated for Anthony was subsequently removed. A GoFundMe spokesperson stated to The Independent that their platform “prohibits fundraising activities for the legal defense of individuals accused of violent crimes.”
