Man Utd transfer news: Anthony Martial ABSENT from squad after Chelsea interest

Manchester United flew out to Germany this morning as they take on the Bundesliga champions in their final pre-season game at 7.15pm BST.

However, Martial has stayed at home, which will add fuel to the speculation he is on his way out of the club, with Chelsea and Tottenham among those interested Chelsea.

The Red Devils are reportedly open to swapping the attacker for the Blues’ Willian with Jose Mourinho frustrated with the France ace.

Mourinho has never truly put his faith in Martial and has recently grown critical of the 22-year-old for spending too much time at home following the birth of his newborn son, Swan.

United will welcome back World Cup aces Marcus Rashford, Victor Lindelof and Phil Jones for the trip to Munich after they skipped the American tour following the World Cup.

Mourinho’s side beat Real Madrid 2-1 in their last friendly match and the Portuguese manager admitted he is unsure when Martial would return.

“Anthony Martial has the baby and after the baby is born – beautiful baby, full of health, thank God – he should be here and he is not here,” Mourinho said.

“We go to Munich in a few days and we start the Premier League in nine days.

“These are the players that we have, plus Lindelof, that started training two days ago, plus Marcus Rashford, Jones and Lukaku.

“Because they gave to the group and to the team three days of their holidays, so they’re coming back three days early to try and be available for the team.

“And with the fantastic spirit we have in the majority of the players, I repeat: In the majority of the players, we have a fantastic spirit, we go with everything we have to the Premier League.”

And Martial’s absence from today’s game puts his future in doubt ahead of the transfer deadline on Thursday.

United would still be able to sell Martial after Thursday but he would have to be abroad.

He was previously linked with Juventus and Barcelona, but both have signed players in Martial’s position.

PSG and Real Madrid have also shown interest and may make moves later in the month.
