Expert reveals real reason behind Meghan Markle's love for the colour beige

Meghan Markle chose to wear outfits with mostly beige tones during her Netflix series ‘With Love, Meghan’ and received mixed opinions on her wardrobe of choice. However, a colour expert has revealed why beige does in fact suit the Duchess of Sussex, but she has to choose the right undertones to match her complexion.

Colour image consultant, Francesca Cairns, has told Express.co.uk Meghan’s colour season is a ‘Deep Autumn’. Speaking to Express.co.uk, she explained: “Meghan’s colouring is best complemented by warm, rich neutrals, rather than cool or pale beige tones. Beige can suit her season, but it must have warm undertones, such as camel, chocolate brown, or golden beige.”

The expert added: “These warm, earthy neutrals enhance her complexion and work well with her natural warm undertones.”

Meghan often opts for loose silhouettes and has swapped her formal wear for California casuals after she stepped down as a working royal in 2020. However, she does still add a dash of sophistication to her carefully curated outfits, including muted pieces.

During episode two of the series, Meghan tells her Hollywood pal, Mindy Kaling, she is wearing cream Zara trousers and a jumper from the luxury Italian brand Loro Piano, worth over £1,000, when asked about her outfit.

But the expert particularly liked Meghan’s stunning brown coat from Massimo Dutti, which was layered over a blue denim shirt, adding a pop of colour to her ensemble as she noted: “I also love when she mixes beige and browns with blue to add some contrast!”

Meghan Markle’s eight-part series on Netflix is due to air for a second season in autumn 2025.

In the style expert’s opinion, there was one particular outfit that “beautifully complemented” Meghan Markle’s complexion, and was purchased from a popular high-street brand.

Francesca said: “The dress, in a light brown hue that beautifully complements her skin, is from the popular high street brand Zara, perfectly suited to Meghan’s ‘Deep Autumn’ [season] colouring. Meghan styled the dress elegantly with gold jewellery which is in her colour season, including her Cartier Love bracelet and a gold Francaise watch.

“Meghan’s natural colouring is enhanced by warm, rich colours that complement her warm undertones and deep complexion. These colours make her appear radiant, highlighting her features and creating a harmonious look. They create a sophisticated and polished appearance that resonates with her season’s characteristics.”

Meghan’s tonal brown dress is known as the ‘Pleated Linen Slip Dress’ from Zara’s ZW Collection; part of their Spring Summer 2024 line.
