The latest trailer for the upcoming Marvel film came out last week, in which a huge raft of Marvel favourites were seen in the clash with Thanos.
We also got our first look at Ebony Maw, a villain from Thanos’s Black Order who was seen torturing Dr Stange (Benedict Cumberbatch).
A Reddit user has convincingly argued that it will be Maw who ultimately spells the end for Thanos – potentially opening up a whole new wave of trouble for the heroes.
User tschandler71 wrote: “After watching the released trailers and reading the reports of the not publicly released or leaked D23 trailer I’ve been rattling this theory around in my head.
“The only time we’ve seen the reality stone is in the D23 leaks. In it Ebony Maw and Proxima Midnight destroy the Collector on Knowhere. The Collector of course being the last known owner of the stone.

“In the latest trailer we see Ebony torturing Dr. Strange in what appears to be the mirror dimension. The only way Ebony could stand to to toe with Strange AND manipulate the mirror dimension is to have the Reality Stone.
“That would fit with Thanos’ previous m.o. of giving a stone to a inferior to obtain another.”
They summarised: “I believe Ebony will be somewhat like 616 Nebula and attempt to betray Thanos when he is on the brink of victory.”
It checks out – but another user responded that it should be Karen Gillan’s Nebula who ultimately defeats Thanos; a moment which would be scuppered if Maw takes centre stage.
“They wouldn’t take Nebula’s defining moment away from her,” argued user hollirin. “It’s an iconic scene from the comics, so it’s happening.
“People aren’t invested enough in Ebony Maw to care if he betrays Thanos. My money’s on Loki or Nebula.”
We’ll get our answer soon enough: Avengers Infinity War is out on April 26.
