Oscars 2018 – LIVE updates: Jimmy Kimmel SKEWERS Harvey Weinstein in opening monologue

The movies are the favourites to win the big gongs tonight: they’re neck-and-neck in the race for Best Picture, and could also win big in other fields.

Shape’s Guillermo del Toro is favoured for Best Director, while Three Billboards’s Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell are the hot tips for Actress and Supporting Actor respectively.

We’ll be updating this page throughout the night – scroll down for the very latest.

And for the rolling winners’ list, head here.

01:18 UK / 17:18 LA: Here we go, then – first prize of the night, and time for Actor in a Supporting Role, presented by the radiant Viola Davis.

As expected, it’s Sam Rockwell for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

01:08 UK / 17:08 LA: Jimmy is on a roll – skewering Harvey Weinstein, hailing the MeToo movement, and praising the huge success of Black Panther.

“If you’re a nominee tonight who isn’t making history, shame on you!” he adds to big applause and laughter.

Kimmel also points out big gender differences.

01:03 UK / 17:03 LA: And we’re off! Jimmy Kimmel narrates a funny opening sequence, referencing last year’s notorious gaffe.

“This year, when you hear your name called, don’t get up right away! Give us a minute,” he quipped.

And a shot of Emma Stone in the audience – the star of La La Land, of course – is just a tiny bit awkward.

01:00 UK / 17:00 LA – It seems the first category we will see being presented tonight is Best Supporting Actor; expected to go to Sam Rockwell.

That is, of course, unless Willem Dafoe causes an upset.

Not long now until the prizegiving is under way…

00:33 UK / 16:33 LA – Less than thirty minutes to go now, and the red carpet is getting very busy in Hollywood.

Interestingly the assault allegations against Ryan Seacrest don’t seem to have deterred many big names on the red carpet: Allison Janney, Christopher Plummer and Taraji P. Henson have all stopped to talk to him so far.

00:09 UK / 16:09 LA – The red carpet is in full flow in LA, as the stars flock to arrive.

It’s been confirmed that the Me Too movement did not ask attendees to wear all-black, but it will almost certainly be addressed on stage at some point.

The ceremony begins within an hour – who are you backing to win?

00:06 UK / 16:06 UK – Interesting note from UK bookies – 47% of all Best Picture bets today have been for Lady Bird.

Considering the movie is NOT considered a frontrunner in the field, could we be in for an upset?

Other big movie contenders include Dunkirk, Get Out and Call Me By Your Name.

Gary Oldman in Darkest Hour is considered a shoe-in for Best Actor, while I, Tonya’s Allison Janney is a lock-in for Supporting Actress.

The Oscars are airing on Sky Cinema in the UK.
