Leeds United send scouts to watch Jerry Mbakogu: Carpi willing to sell in the summer

The Championship giants sent scouts to run the rule over the 25-year-old against Spezia today.

Mbakogu opened the scoring as Carpi, currently mid-table in Serie B, secured a 2-1 win.

Leeds are unlikely to sign a striker before the transfer window slams shut on Wednesday so Mbakogu could be targeted in the summer.

And, according to Italian publication TuttoMercatoWeb, Carpi are ready to sell in June.

Mbakogu has been at Carpi since sealing a move from Padova in 2014.

favourites to sign Aston Villa flop Ross McCormack

He has hit 36 goals in 124 appearances for the northern Italian club.

Leeds have scoured European markets for new players since Andrea Radrizzani completed his takeover last May.

A new target man was on Leeds’ wish list heading into the January window but Football Insider claim there is no money left in the club’s transfer budget.

Signing a striker is expected to be a top priority in the summer.

Pierre-Michel Lasogga’s loan is unlikely to be turned into a permanent deal at the end of the season after struggling to fill the void left by Chris Wood while Caleb Ekuban has struggled with injuries in his maiden campaign at Elland Road.
