Weight loss: Giving up this one food in 2018 will help you shed the pounds

Weight loss is difficult, but steering clear of sugary drinks is one sure fire way to avoid putting on extra pounds, scientists believe.

Thirty studies from previous years have all shown that drinking sugary drinks is linked to being overweight and obese.

Drinks that are sweetened with extra sugar have been shown to be linked to obesity in adults and children.

A whopping 93 per cent of research projects showed the positive correlation.

One study shows that adults aiming to lose weight who cut out sugary drinks lost more weight than those who didn’t.

The NHS said: “A high sugar content means a drink is also high in calories, which can contribute towards you becoming overweight.

“Cutting down on these drinks is a good way of reducing the number of calories you consume while not missing out on any nutrients.

“Likewise, getting children to drink fewer sugary drinks is a good way of limiting the amount of sugar they consume. Children who drink a lot of sugary drinks are more likely to become overweight.”

Scientists have no claimed that countries that haven’t already should take action to encourage people to drink less of the sweet beverages.

Dr Farpour-Lambert, who conducted the review the journal Obesity Facts said: “The evidence base linking SSBs with obesity and overweight in children and adults has grown substantially in the past 3 years.

“This new, more recent evidence suggests that SSB consumption is positively associated with obesity in children.

“Public health policies should aim to reduce the consumption of SSBs and encourage healthy alternatives such as water.”
