Kate Middleton & Diana cause resurgence for 'blue blazers' – their style is 'aspirational'

For the event, Kate Middleton wore a long, cobalt gown by Eponine with long sleeves and a pair of navy heels. Though she had not appeared to have worn this particular dress in public before, the style seems to be from last year’s collection and thus was likely not new. A fitting decision on the part of the famous outfit-recycler, given the evening’s theme of eco-consciousness.

The ankle-length dress featured square shoulders, a wrap front and a belt with two black buttons.

One Twitter user, retweeted by What Kate Wore, pointed out the dress featured in an Instagram post 87 weeks ago.

“Makes sense for sustainability. She’s probably had this piece a while,” they said.

The Duchess paired her dress with navy blue, pointed-toe suede pumps, and wore her hair in a neat low bun that showed off her drop earrings.

The dress was hugely reminiscent of a look Princess Diana wore in 1992 in South Korea.

Diana, Princess of Wales, was seen wearing a blue pleated skirt and jacket with gold buttons during the trip.

Prince Charles and Diana had visited the Bulguksa Buddhist temple on November 5, 1992, in Gyeongju, South Korea, where Diana wore the royal blue outfit.

This also happened to be the couple’s last joint overseas visit as a couple, before they separated on December 9 that year.

Diana’s ensemble was a royal blue blazer and pleated skirt combination.

Many royal commentators saw Kate’s COP26 look as a homage to Diana’s 90s getup.

In May of this year, Kate and William visited Scotland and the Duchess of Cambridge wore another strikingly similar blue blazer and skirt combination like Diana’s.

For this occasion, Kate teamed a royal-blue blazer by Zara with a royal-blue pleated skirt by Hope Fashion.

As a result of Kate’s blazer looks recently and also the release of ‘Spencer’ and the upcoming Season Five of ‘The Crown’, royal fans are reminiscing over Diana’s iconic blazer style moments.

According to the global fashion marketplace ‘Love The Sales’, Kate matching Diana’s style has caused a 614 percent demand lift for ‘blue blazers’ as a result.

Demand for ‘blue skirts’ has also increased by 83 percent.

Hussain Ul-Haq, a spokesperson for ‘Love The Sales’ spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk about this new fashion trend of Kate’s and how 90s fashion is making a comeback.

He said: “Kate’s and Diana’s ability to cause a 614 percent spike in demand for any product is hardly surprising.

“The style of both the Duchess and Princess is aspirational, choosing elegant yet relatable fashion pieces.

“Clothing such as a blue blazer is an example of this, worn by most age groups and highly versatile it is accessible to all.

“When either royal is spotted wearing one it causes a shopping frenzy to ensue”.
