One of the world’s oldest bike manufacturers Raleigh saddles up for the future with £4,000 E-cargo cycles

The electric bike craze is heating up, with Raleigh the latest to enter the market.

The firm, founded in 1885, is one of the world’s oldest manufacturers and makes the electric bikes for window cleaners, plumbers and milk and parcel deliverers who are increasingly turning their backs on vans for more environmentally friendly modes of transport.
The cargo bikes are expensive, costing between £4,000 and £5,000 each. They are also particularly useful for delivery firms who want to avoid paying the congestion charge in central London.
Edward Pegram, manager at Raleigh UK, said: ‘For Raleigh, ecargo bikes have one of the biggest growth trajectories over the next four or five years.’
About 2,000 e-cargo bikes were sold in the UK for commercial use last year, according to the Bicycle Association, but this figure is expected to grow rapidly over the coming years.
