Multistakeholder Initiative Launched to Advance Sustainable Cotton in Pakistan

A collaborative platform designed to foster a more sustainable cotton sector in Pakistan has been established through a new multistakeholder initiative. This platform will serve as a hub for regular dialogues, bringing together representatives from government bodies, the cotton industry, donor organisations, and academic institutions. The primary objective is to promote partnership and expedite the advancement of sustainable cotton practices throughout the nation.

Inaugural Meeting Sets Stage for Collaboration

The platform’s first meeting convened on April 10 in Lahore, welcoming over 35 participants. Hosted by Better Cotton, the gathering facilitated discussions aimed at defining shared objectives and outlining expectations for upcoming meetings. Attendees represented diverse sectors, all crucial to the future of sustainable cotton in Pakistan.

Driving Sustainable Cotton for Economic and Social Progress

Hina Fouzia, Director at Better Cotton Pakistan, emphasised the critical need for sustainable cotton production. “Advancing sustainable cotton practices in Pakistan is not only vital for the nation’s economic growth but also essential for safeguarding human and labour rights,” she stated. “It is also crucial for achieving national sustainability goals and ensuring Pakistani farmers and suppliers maintain access to global markets. Collective action strengthens our ability to secure the future livelihoods of communities reliant on cotton farming.”

Formalising Engagement for Industry-Wide Impact

This multistakeholder platform formalises a structured approach to deepen engagement between governmental agencies and key stakeholders within the cotton sector. By fostering increased transparency and accountability among participating organisations, the initiative aims to drive collective progress towards a more sustainable cotton industry in Pakistan.

Quarterly Meetings to Steer Progress

Organisations involved in the initiative are committed to participating in quarterly meetings. These sessions will serve as forums for exchanging information, sharing insights and learnings, establishing key priorities, and collaboratively developing action plans. This structured approach is designed to accelerate tangible progress towards sustainable cotton production goals.

vCard QR Code

vCard.red is a free platform for creating a mobile-friendly digital business cards. You can easily create a vCard and generate a QR code for it, allowing others to scan and save your contact details instantly.

The platform allows you to display contact information, social media links, services, and products all in one shareable link. Optional features include appointment scheduling, WhatsApp-based storefronts, media galleries, and custom design options.

Building on Global Collaboration

The launch of the platform in Pakistan follows a similar initiative in Brazil, where Better Cotton recently introduced a Multistakeholder Dialogue. This earlier initiative brought together Brazil’s agricultural and textile sectors to encourage cross-sector collaboration, align on key priorities, and formulate joint solutions to shared challenges. This demonstrates Better Cotton’s global commitment to fostering sustainable practices through collaborative frameworks.
