Doctor Strange Exploit in Marvel Rivals Continues to Frustrate Players
Despite being in early access for four months, Marvel Rivals players are still uncovering and exploiting issues with Doctor Strange’s portal ability. This sorcerer can strategically place two portals anywhere on the map, creating a magical gateway for team movement. However, gamers have been utilizing this power to manipulate opponents, often tricking them into falling off the map or becoming stuck within their initial spawn areas. While some of these tactics might seem like legitimate gameplay, a newly discovered Doctor Strange exploit is perceived as excessively unfair and is likely to be addressed in an upcoming patch.
New Portal Exploit Traps Opponents Outside the Playable Area
The latest exploit involves strategically positioning a portal near certain walls, causing it to clip through the geometry and open on the other side. By precisely placing one portal, players can create pathways to previously inaccessible areas. Luring an opposing player through such a portal effectively traps them beyond the boundaries of the normal game environment. While this can be a tactic to remove players from objectives, the inescapable nature of the trap often leads to opponents either abandoning the match or being disconnected due to inactivity. This gameplay experience is understandably frustrating for affected players.
“Prison Portal” Strategy Emerges, Utilizing Jeff the Land Shark
Compounding the issue, some players are developing sophisticated strategies around this exploit. A particularly egregious method involves combining the portal glitch with Jeff the Land Shark’s ultimate ability. This combination turns the exploit into a near-inescapable “prison portal.”
Streamer Showcases Diabolical Tactic
Popular Marvel Rivals streamer Jay3 recently demonstrated this tactic on his channel, highlighting its effectiveness. The strategy involves a Doctor Strange player placing one portal within a wall, while positioning the other portal directly beneath Jeff the Land Shark. When Jeff uses his ultimate to devour enemies, instead of simply spitting them off the map’s edge as is typical, he launches them through the glitched portal and into the inaccessible zone.
Ordinarily, portals remain active for a short duration, allowing players to potentially return. However, this strategy includes an additional step: the Doctor Strange player immediately switches heroes after portal creation. This action causes the portal to instantly vanish, ensuring the trapped opponent has no means of escape.

NetEase Expected to Address the Issue
This type of oversight is understandable in game development and often goes unnoticed during standard testing procedures. It frequently surfaces only when a game is released to a wider audience of creative and sometimes mischievous players. It is anticipated that developer NetEase will swiftly issue a patch to resolve this exploit before it becomes more prevalent, as intentionally removing players from matches creates a negative gameplay environment for Marvel Rivals.
Game’s Second Season and Monetization
Marvel Rivals recently launched its second season, introducing Emma Frost and Ultron as new playable characters. This season also implemented a new, complex system for monetizing the game’s cosmetic items, which were already considered expensive by some players.
