Jake Paul to Face Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in Summer Boxing Match
YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul is slated to confront Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in a highly anticipated cruiserweight boxing match this summer. This announcement follows speculation about Paul’s next opponent, moving away from fights against non-boxers, UFC converts, or aging former champions, after his controversial victory over Mike Tyson.
Cruiserweight Clash This Summer
According to Ring Magazine’s Mike Coppinger, the bout between Paul, the internet personality turned pugilist, and Chavez Jr., son of the legendary Mexican boxer, is confirmed. While details regarding the broadcast platform are pending, it has been confirmed the event will not be aired on Netflix, unlike Paulβs previous fight against Mike Tyson which drew considerable criticism.
DailyMail.com has contacted Most Valuable Promotions, Paul’s promotional company, for official confirmation of the upcoming boxing event.
A Legacy in the Ring
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. carries the name of his iconic father, a Hall-of-Fame boxer who dominated the sport with an impressive record of 107 wins out of 115 fights (1980-2005). While Chavez Jr. has not replicated his father’s unparalleled achievements, he did hold the middleweight title between 2011 and 2012, marking a significant accomplishment in his own right.
Chavez Jr. maintained an impressive 46-0-1 record up to June 2012. However, his subsequent career saw him suffer defeats in six of his following 14 matches between September 2012 and July 2024. These losses included bouts against elite boxers such as Canelo Alvarez, Sergio Martinez, and Daniel Jacobs. He also experienced a defeat to former UFC fighter Anderson Silva after failing to meet the weight requirement for their 2021 fight.

Notably, Chavez Jr. made a return to the ring on a Jake Paul undercard in 2024, securing a unanimous decision victory over 40-year-old Uriah Hall.
Paul’s Path to Chavez Jr.

Paul’s recent TKO victory over Mike Perry served as preparation for his initially scheduled bout against Tyson in November. Since then, there has been much speculation regarding Paul’s next opponent. Potential matchups discussed included a rematch with KSI, bouts against Gervonta Davis and Tommy Fury β the sole boxer to defeat Paul β and even preliminary discussions about a fight with Canelo Alvarez.
In February, Alvarez solidified a four-fight agreement with Riyadh Season in Saudi Arabia, featuring a prominent fight against Terence Crawford, former undisputed light-welterweight and welterweight champion, in September. Initial expectations suggested Alvarez and Paul were nearing an agreement for a crossover fight, but Alvarez is now set to face William Scull in May instead.
‘We dedicated considerable effort alongside Al Hayman and PBC to facilitate the Canelo fight, and we aim to support their ongoing ventures,’ stated Nakisa Bidarian, partner at Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions, in an interview with The Sun.

Bidarian further commented, ‘Currently, we are actively engaged in finalizing Jake’s summer fight and will announce the details as soon as we are prepared.’
‘Additionally, we are proactively planning Jake’s subsequent fight, targeted for the October to December timeframe.’
‘The current plan is for Jake to participate in two fights in 2025 and potentially two to three fights in 2026.’
MVP is also focused on organizing the third installment of the highly anticipated Katie Taylor-Amanda Serrano trilogy, scheduled for July 11 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
