Haley Joel Osment Arrested in Mammoth Lakes, California
Actor Haley Joel Osment asserted he was “attacked” by law enforcement officers during his recent arrest in Mammoth Lakes, California, an incident that has drawn media attention. The arrest, stemming from alleged disorderly conduct and public intoxication at a ski resort, has been captured in part on body camera footage.
Body Cam Footage and Initial Encounter
Body camera footage, reportedly obtained on Thursday, April 17, shows a police officer approaching Osment, 37, as he was being held by multiple individuals in a Mammoth Lakes parking area. The incident unfolded before his formal arrest. According to the footage, as the officer arrived at the scene, Osment can be heard stating, “I’m trying to walk back to,” while being restrained.
An officer already present at the location informed the newly arrived officer that Osment was “beyond intoxication,” suggesting a high level of inebriation.
Allegations of Intoxication and Disruptive Behavior
An unidentified individual at the scene alleged, “He lunged at the bartender, we were very nice and calm,” providing context to the situation.
Subsequently, officers placed Osment in handcuffs. During the arrest, Osment reportedly exclaimed, “I’m being attacked” repeatedly.
An officer clarified to the actor, “You’re being detained.” Authorities instructed Osment to cease resisting arrest, to which the actor responded by questioning what he was “doing wrong.”
Following his detainment, Osment was searched. Officers inquired if he had “dope in here,” a question Osment denied. When asked to identify himself, Osment reportedly declined to give his name.
In response to Osment’s silence regarding his identity, an officer stated, “It’s a very simple question.” Osment then replied, “I’m an American, man.”
Another individual present at the scene commented that Osment “couldn’t take care of himself,” further highlighting the perceived level of his impairment.
The same individual further detailed the events leading up to the arrest, alleging, “He went to the bar, ordered one drink, he was so intoxicated that he spilled his drink … They served him one drink, he was so drunk he spilled it, and they cut him off.” According to this account, “Then he got aggravated, argumentative, he tried to load the lift they refused to load the lift.”
It has been confirmed that Osment faces charges of disorderly conduct and possession of a controlled substance following his arrest on April 8. Police responded to a report of an allegedly intoxicated individual at a ski resort, leading to his apprehension. Osment has since been released from custody.
Video footage reportedly indicates that prior to the parking lot incident, Osment was attempting to board a ski lift without a snowboard at the Mammoth Mountain ski resort. Both a staff member and another guest reportedly requested that Osment leave the queue.
Initial reports indicated that Osment was booked on suspicion of public intoxication and possession of a controlled substance. The substance in question has been sent for laboratory analysis. Ski patrol personnel were present when law enforcement officers arrived and took Osment into custody. He was held in jail overnight following the arrest. Media outlets have reached out to Osment’s representatives for comment.
Formal Charges and Arraignment
The Mono County District Attorney subsequently affirmed that Osment faces formal charges of disorderly conduct while under the influence of alcohol and possession of cocaine. His arraignment is scheduled for July 7 at the Mammoth Lakes branch of the Mono County Superior Court.
