Katie Thurston Discloses Breast Cancer Progression to Stage 4
Reality television personality Katie Thurston has announced that her breast cancer has advanced. The former Bachelorette star revealed to her followers that the cancer has now spread to her liver, resulting in a stage 4 diagnosis.
Diagnosis Confirmation
In a video message shared on Instagram on March 28, Thurston explained that a recent PET scan detected suspicious areas on her liver. Subsequent examination, including a liver biopsy, confirmed the spread of the cancer. “After days of waiting, unfortunately, I did find out today that my breast cancer has spread to the liver,” she stated in her video update.
Stage 4 Diagnosis
“It is fairly small,” Thurston clarified regarding the liver lesions. “However, that does put me at stage 4.” The diagnosis of stage 4 cancer indicates that the disease has metastasized, spreading from its original site to distant parts of the body.
Treatment Plan Commences
Thurston detailed that her revised treatment strategy, which will include chemotherapy, is scheduled to commence on April 4. She is approaching this new phase of her treatment with optimism, despite the gravity of a stage 4 diagnosis.
Maintaining Optimism
“I know stage 4 can sound very daunting, and it can be,” the 34-year-old acknowledged. “However, given that I am triple-positive and the spots on my liver are fairly small and detected early, I feel very hopeful about my prognosis.” Thurston’s triple-positive status refers to a specific type of breast cancer that is responsive to certain targeted therapies, potentially contributing to her positive outlook.
