The encounter on Saturday served to commemorate Chelsea’s historic 2004-05 season. That year saw the West London club clinch their first Premier League title and their first top-flight championship in five decades. Chelsea also secured the EFL Cup, notably defeating Liverpool in the final.
Adding to the rivalry that season, the two sides also clashed in the Champions League semi-final, where Liverpool emerged victorious over two legs.

Second Goal Seals Victory
Crouch further extended Liverpool’s advantage in the 66th minute, securing his brace. He challenged Robert Huth for a high ball from Mark Gonzalez’s left-wing cross. Although his initial header wasn’t clean, the ball fell favorably, allowing Crouch to skillfully lob the Chelsea goalkeeper with his right foot.
Following the final whistle, the Liverpool Legends team completed a lap of honor around Anfield, greeted by a near-capacity crowd.
Charity Focus of the Match
The charity match was sponsored by Liverpool’s training partner, AXA. Funds raised by Liverpool FC will benefit the LFC Foundation, supporting their physical and mental health initiatives for people of all ages within the Liverpool city region.
