‘Good Burger’ Actor J.P. Schwieterman Passes Away at 52
Jan Patrick “J.P.” Schwieterman, best known for his portrayal of Kurt Bozwell in the 1997 Nickelodeon comedy “Good Burger,” has died. He was 52.
Schwieterman passed away on February 28 at Mercy Hospital in Washington, Missouri, following a brief battle with cancer, according to his obituary.
Sudden Loss After Cancer Diagnosis
The news of Schwieterman’s death was shared by his brother, Chad Schwieterman, on Facebook. “It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of my brother, Jan (JP) Schwieterman,” he wrote, adding that the diagnosis of “an aggressive form of stage 4 cancer” was recent.
The actor’s death was described as a “shock” by family and friends.
“Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers as we navigate this difficult time. Rest in peace, brother. We love you and miss you,” Chad Schwieterman stated.
From Eagle Scout to Hollywood
Born in Bluffton, Indiana, Schwieterman achieved the rank of Eagle Scout before pursuing a career in acting in Hollywood.
He relocated to Los Angeles after high school and began his on-screen career with guest appearances in television series such as “McKenna,” “ER,” and “Forever.”
‘Good Burger’ and Career Highlights
Schwieterman gained prominence for his role as Kurt Bozwell, the primary antagonist and owner of a rival fast-food establishment in “Good Burger.” The film starred Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell from “Saturday Night Live.”
The ensemble cast of “Good Burger” also included Sinbad and Shaquille O’Neal.
Following the success of “Good Burger,” Schwieterman continued acting, with a guest role in “Felicity” and other projects. He subsequently took a seven-year break from acting after 2000.
His final film credit was in the 2008 independent movie “Along the Way.”
Schwieterman did not return for the sequel, “Good Burger 2,” which was released in 2023.
Life Beyond Acting and Memorial
According to his obituary, “J.P. loved to travel, visiting numerous countries, including a recent trip to Thailand. He was a talented photographer and painter, studied martial arts, and enjoyed playing Dungeons and Dragons.”
He is survived by his parents, Clara and LeeRoy, two sisters, his brother, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service was held for the actor on March 4. The family requested that donations be made to the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas in his memory.
