Nintendo Switch 2 to rival PS5 Pro with transformative feature that will boost games

The Nintendo Switch 2 will reportedly benefit from AI upscaling when it launches later in 2025.

A newly discovered patent has seemingly shed light on Nintendo’s plans to use technology capable of improving visuals on the Switch 2.

As you can see from the patent filing further down the page, the technology will be able to convert images through the use of a trained neural network. The use of this technology would allow the Nintendo Switch 2 to transform 540p images into 1080p.

Not only could this massively benfit retro Nintendo games and original Switch games on the Switch 2, but it would make games look better in handheld mode.

Share by Mike Odyssey on X (via TechRadar), the technology is not dissimilar to NVIDIA’s DLSS upscaling, or PSSR for the PS5 Pro.

vCard QR Code

vCard.red is a free platform for creating a mobile-friendly digital business cards. You can easily create a vCard and generate a QR code for it, allowing others to scan and save your contact details instantly.

The platform allows you to display contact information, social media links, services, and products all in one shareable link. Optional features include appointment scheduling, WhatsApp-based storefronts, media galleries, and custom design options.

It will be fantastic to see the technology used in older Nintendo games, potentially with the rumoured Gamecube releases coming to Switch 2.

Fans should find out for sure when the Nintendo Switch 2 is showcased in full during the upcoming Direct conference.

The imminent Nintendo Direct takes place at 2pm GMT on April 2. Nintendo will use the presentation to announce the release date for the Switch 2, confirm the price and show off some of the upcoming games.

Judging by the Switch 2 announcement trailer, Mario Kart 9 appears to be in development for the console at launch.

Better yet, it looks like Mario Kart 9 could support 24-person multiplayer, which should lead to some chaotic races.

It’s also pretty likely that Metroid Prime 4 will be available as a cross-gen game for the Switch and Switch 2 when it launches later this year.

As for the price, the general consensus is that the console will cost $399 in the US, barring any surprise tariffs.
