How to watch ‘Last Take: Rust and the Story of Halyna’ doc for free

A new documentary about the life, work, and death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins is now available to stream.

“Last Take: Rust and the Story of Halyna,” which was released on Hulu today, was directed by Hutchins’ close friend Rachel Mason. Matthew Hutchins approached Mason about making a documentary about his late wife.

Hutchins, 42, was killed in October 2021 when actor Alec Baldwin fired a prop gun that had been mistakenly loaded with a live round on the set of “Rust.” Baldwin and armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed were charged with involuntary manslaughter in the months following the shooting; Baldwin’s trial was dismissed due to prosecutors intentionally withholding critical evidence from the defense, while Gutierrez-Reed 18-month sentence was upheld.

The doc examines the lawsuits, criminal trials, and investigations of Hutchins’ death, while aiming to redeem and tell the cinematographer’s story — which has largely been overshadowed by the investigation around her death.
