Wheeler Dealers team refused to buy classic car in Portugal after flying out especially

Wheeler Dealers hosts have admitted they refused to buy a classic car in Portugal after flying out especially to secure the historic model.

Marc Priestley revealed that fellow co-host Mike Brewer decided the car “wasn’t right” after travelling across Europe to secure the retro machine.

However, the duo were in luck when they discovered an iconic Peugeot 405 Mi-16 on the same trip.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, Mr Priestley said: “Of course, like anything else, we often just see a car by the side of the road with a big for sale sticker on it. We’ve actually gone to look at one car and ended up buying something completely different

“It happened in this very show, Mike went down to Portugal to look at a particular car, it wasn’t right for us.

“But there was another car that ended up being like a real star of one of these episodes. Like anyone out there it’s not all just pre-planned and thought out in advance.

“Sometimes you think on the fly, you see something and it just works.”

The Peugeot model had been sitting in Portugal for a whopping 20 years before it was saved by the team back in May.

Earlier in the summer, Mike showed off the model on his social media accounts including Tiktok.

He admitted the duo had initially been unable to put the car through its paces as it needed a Portuguese MOT to run on the roads.

The team promptly took the car to a classic car garage where it passed the safety check.

The model was then auctioned online with the team promising to ship the vehicle back to the UK.

Mr Priestley added: “I actually think the best shows are ones that are a bit like that, less produced in advance.

“Something just happened and we follow that action, we follow that storyline. It may be completely different to all the production meetings we’ve had about that show but they often end up being a better show.

“Cars always have a storyline. Sometimes we don’t find the story until halfway down a show and it completely changes the direction.

“Some shows would never be brave enough to change tact and just go with it, But we pride ourselves on being flexible enough that if a great story comes along we will run with it.”
