Love Letter: Can People Change?

I’m a strong believer in nurture over nature. I read my horoscope almost every day, but I don’t truly believe in pre-determinism or fate.

This is all to say: I think people can change.

Do you care? Probably not. But Sophia Ortega, the author of this week’s Modern Love essay, might.

In her essay, “This Is Not About Sexy Secretary Role-Play,” Ms. Ortega discusses the benefits of believing that the past doesn’t dictate the future.

She wrote, “As someone who has dabbled in the unforgivable — having lied, stolen and ghosted — I don’t want to live in a world where actions are irredeemable.”
