Slack and Peloton were among the companies experiencing a widespread outage on Tuesday – the cause of which has yet to be identified.
Down Detector, a site that tracks service outages, noted a spike in reported issues for Slack and Amazon Web Services beginning just before 9 a.m. ET. Coding platform Github also appeared to be having problems, according to Down Detector.
For Slack, the outage affected most functions, including messages, posts, calls and notifications. Many Slack users were unable to load the platform or exchange messages.
Slack acknowledged ongoing issues in a status update posted on its website. It’s still unclear what caused the outage, which Slack said had begun to ease by afternoon.
“We’re seeing signs of improvement. Please try reloading Slack, and if not a cache reset. We’re still monitoring the situation. We’ll confirm once this issue is fully resolved,” Slack said in an update posted at 12:07 p.m. ET.

We apologize for any impact this may have on your workout and appreciate your patience,” Peloton said in a post on its Twitter account.
Later, Peloton said it was “seeing widespread recovery of Peloton services” for users.
While Down Detector showed a spike in reported issues affecting Amazon Web Services, an AWS spokesperson said the data was “inaccurate” and the cloud platform was not experiencing any trouble.
“There are not any issues originating with AWS,” the spokesperson said.

AWS’s product dashboard showed its systems were functioning normally. Amazon’s cloud platform experienced multiple widespread outages in December.
Github has yet to comment on the situation.
