White House chaos: Biden set to be replaced as US President – and not by VP Kamala Harris

Speculation is rife among White House reporters that Joe Biden may not stand for re-election in 2024. However, President Biden’s replacement at the top of the ticket would not be his Vice-President Kamala Harris, but rather Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. Former Trump official Kayleigh McEnany pointed out to Fox News that Mr Buttigieg recently refused to rule out or downplay the rumours during a recent interview.

In a recent flight with Vice-President, Mr Buttigieg was questioned about the speculation and his relationship with Ms Harris.

He said: “It’s 2021. The whole point of campaigns and elections is, when they go well you get to govern.

“And we are squarely focused on the job at hand.

“I’m excited to be part of a team led by the President and the Vice-President and I think that the teamwork that got us to this point is really just the beginning.”

Ms McEnany claimed that Mr Buttigieg did not “appear to back Biden for the next election”.

She said: “This is on Air Force two, this is on Kamala Harris’ plane.

“She is sitting right there next to him. He is asked by 2024 speculation, people are saying he should be the next president, and his answer is not what it should have been.

“It should have been I stand behind Biden. It was telling that that was not the answer.”

A source in the White House told Politico that the speculation of a future President Buttigieg was being openly discussed.

However, Ms Harris has struggled in recent weeks after a number of senior members resigned.

Washington Examiner Editor-in-Chief Hugo Gurdon has told Fox News the Vice President’s office was in “complete turmoil”.

Fox News contributor Joe Concha has discussed the latest polling numbers amid speculation that various Democrat party donors are in favour of Mr Buttigieg.

Mr Concha told Fox News: “Behind the scenes, donors really, really want Pete Buttigieg.

“Forget Vice President they want him to be the nominee in 2024 at the top of the ticket.

“Because you look at the President’s poll numbers, barely more than one-third of the country approves of this President’s performance.

“Twenty-eight percent approve of Kamala Harris – that is not a winning ticket.”
