Woman threw injured puppy into ocean because she couldn’t afford a vet: cops

A Georgia woman tossed an injured puppy into the ocean, telling cops she didn’t have money to pay for a vet, Tybee Island Police Department said.

Candy Marban was arrested Tuesday and slapped with a felony charge of aggravated cruelty to animals for throwing the poor pup into the ocean at South Beach, the department announced on social media.

The suffering dog was rescued and treated in Savannah but ultimately had to be put down, police stated.

Officers were called to the beach on the afternoon of Sept. 12 on reports of someone throwing a dog into the ocean.

“When officers arrived on the scene, they found the puppy curled up in the sand and nursing an obvious injury,” the department said in a release.

Marban told cops the dog was injured a week earlier “and she did not have money to take it for medical treatment.”

She was initially issued a citation, but police issued a warrant on the felony charge after the dog was euthanized, according to the release. A social-media manhunt was launched by the department, which posted a wanted poster to Facebook on Monday.

That post was shared more than 2,000 times in 24 hours and Marban was charged a day later, the department said in its announcement.
