New Jersey residents peeved about spot on US state-ranking poll

A survey released on Tuesday found that New Jersey is one of the worst states in the nation — but Garden State fans said “fuggedaboutit!”

The poll from data analytics firm YouGov ranked New Jersey No. 48 out of 50, above only Mississippi and Alabama.

“New Jersey is often the butt of jokes, including for its occasional odor or for being the birthplace of ‘The Jersey Shore’ franchise,” the researchers explained.

For the study, 1,211 US adults were asked to choose the better of two states in a series of head-to-head matchups.

Researchers then ranked the states, and Washington, DC, (which was last) based on their “win percentage.”

Beachy Hawaii got the top spot with 69 percent, followed by Colorado and Virginia, which had 65 and 64 percent respectively.

New York was No. 8 with 58 percent, coming in above California which ranked 12th but below Florida which got the 6th spot.

Jersey, by comparison, came in at just 39 percent.

The cast of the hit TV show "Jersey Shore" some from the state of New Jersey believe provided a poor representation of the state itself.

Locals didn’t take the diss lying down.

“Wow- that is insane about NJ… we are not to be ranked with Alabama and Mississippi,” one person tweeted.

Another user wondered, “what does PA have that NJ does not,” to which someone responded, “teeth.”

“Its not our fault Jersey smells so bad and is a state of endless tolls,” one person whined.

A reporter for HuffPost even appeared to blame the Empire State, writing that Jersey’s ranking was “a travesty and a result of New York-centric propaganda.”

New Jersey’s official Twitter account also chimed in, posting a photo of a flag that read “We don’t like you either.”

However, some argued Jersey’s ranking was actually too high — and the state event got dunked on by someone from Florida.

“New Jersey sucks. Signed, Floridian who moved there and back,” the tweet read.
