The 1987 Stanley Kubrick classic film, which catapulted him to fame, follows two US Marines as they endure boot camp training and an abusive drill sergeant during the Vietnam War.

In addition to bypassing tickets, though he has insisted those days are behind him, the Manhattan-based actor has also been afforded other perks – most notably courtside Knicks tickets.

‘I was there for some of the most exciting basketball games I’ve ever seen in my life. When Jordan was playing and Patrick Ewing, John Starks, Allan Houston, yeah it was wonderful,’ he shared.

The veteran actor also has a new movie out called Foster Boy, in which Modine stars as a high-powered lawyer in the legal thriller.

Based on a true story, the film follows Modine as a white corporate attorney who represents a young black man who has been burdened by a for-profit foster care agency.

Speaking about the film Modine shared, ‘The more you learn about the foster care system in the United States it so resembles the privatized prison system, on a different scale for a different age group. It’s a big problem in the United States.’

Having personal ties to the subject matter, Matthew grew up with two adopted siblings whose mother was tragically killed by their father.

‘There were things that were peculiar about my brother and sister and I didn’t understand it,’ he shared.

‘But as you get older and you understand that they were in the house for hours before the police came and you think what kind of damage a four-year-old and seven-year-old child, being in the house with dead parents, what that must have done to their psyches,’ he continued.
