“What we see is that the travel steps such as check-in and boarding will become more automated, where you use your phone or biometrics to complete these steps.
“We also see more services being moved off-airport, such as travel authorisation being granted at the point of departure, bag-drop and, increasingly, mobile check-in.”
However, Colella pointed out, many of these changes were likely inevitable eventually, even without the pandemic.
“Interestingly, the changes being introduced post-COVID are in line with a long-established trend by passengers and the air transport industry to move towards a more automated passenger journey,” he said.
