SpaceX launch news: Elon Musk teases big milestone for Starship as Mars rocket takes shape

The aerospace mogul also said: “If 20km works, then orbit.”

A complete Starship will stand 394ft-tall (120m) and measure only 30ft (nine metres) across.

The rocket will carry up to 100 tonnes of cargo into space, such as satellites and scientific instruments.

SpaceX believes Starship will offer a more cost-effective alternative to its iconic Falcon 9 rockets.

The firm said: “With a payload compartment larger than any fairing currently in operation or development, Starship creates possibilities for new missions, including space telescopes even larger than the James Webb.
