White House nominates four U.S. Space Force major generals for promotion

Maj. Gen. Stephen Whiting, Maj. Gen. B. Chance Saltzman, Maj. Gen. William Liquori and Maj. Gen. Nina Armagno have been nominated to receive a third star.

WASHINGTON — President Trump on July 28 submitted to the U.S. Senate the nominations of four U.S. Space Force major generals for promotion to lieutenant general. The nominations will be considered by the Senate Armed Services Committee.

The nominations state that all four will be “assigned to a position of importance and responsibility” and their specific assignments have not yet been announced.

Maj. Gen. Stephen Whiting is currently deputy commander of the U.S. Space Force. He is likely to be named commander of the Space Operations Command, one of three field commands in the Space Force based at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado.

Maj. Gen. B. Chance Saltzman is the acting director of the Space Force staff and previously was deputy commander of U.S. Air Forces Central Command.

Maj. Gen. William Liquori Jr. is director of strategic requirements, architectures and analysis of the U.S. Space Force.

Maj. Gen. Nina Armagno is acting deputy for strategy and resources at Space Force headquarters. She was previously director of space programs in the Department of the Air Force.

Saltzman, Liquori and Armagno are expected to be named to top posts on the Space Force headquarters staff at the Pentagon.
