Google Maps update borrows a useful feature from Apple Maps – and we can't wait

Unfortunately, Google isn’t yet able to show the current status of the lights.

So, you won’t be able to see whether the light is about to change – or has recently turned red. However, as 5G mobile networks become more common, it’s possible that smart cities – with a network of connected traffic lights, zebra crossings, and more – could tie into mapping solutions like Google Maps and Apple Maps in future.

Google seems to be gradually testing the system with users in the United States. Android-obsessed blog Droid-Life has reported seeing traffic lights pop-up in West Des Moines.
