Mamma Mia 3 with new ABBA music ‘will happen, there’s meant to be a trilogy’ says producer

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Yet Again? The producer of the ABBA stage musical and both films has revealed Mamma Mia 3 is very likely to happen one day. Speaking with Daily Mail, Judy Craymer admitted she had hoped to have a think about a threequel during lockdown, but has found it hard to focus.

Nevertheless, the producer admitted: “I think one day there will be another film, because there’s meant to be a trilogy, you see.

“I know Universal would like me to do it.”

In fact, Craymer would like to use the four brand new ABBA songs that Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus have written and hope to release later this year.

While last year, Björn revealed what it would take for a Mamma Mia 3 to happen.

Speaking on Magic Radio, the now 75-year-old said: “I doubt that very much.

“But I probably said after the first film that there won’t be a second. So, you never know.

“But, you know, why we did the second film was that [Ol] Parker and Richard Curtis came up with this idea and that’s why we did it.

“So, if someone comes up with an idea for Mamma Mia 3 you know I’ll have a look at it. We’ll have a look at it.”

Firstly, it doesn’t sound silly like the others. Secondly, it directly references another well-known ABBA song.

Thirdly, it leans on the fact that the Mamma Mia movies are musicals.

Fourthly, it was what bridged the first two movies: The end credits of Mamma Mia has Amanda Seyfried singing Thank You For The Music and the sequel begins with her singing the same track.

And fifthly, and most convincingly, it’s a conclusive title looking back at all the sunny, fun times had across the films.

As for ABBA’s new music, which could well feature in Mamma Mia 3, we know the name of two singles. They are I Still Have Faith in You and Don’t Shut Me Down

Last year, a source told Express.co.uk that it’s not just two singles but a whole new ABBA album.

The insider said: “Benny has written eight new and totally original songs, so far. Five of which are completely recorded on which the girls have just finished their vocals.

“The two Bs have been playing it coy with their official announcements, so far. But this and more is what is happening behind the scenes.”
