Call of Duty Modern Warfare free multiplayer weekend and Warzone Season 4 update

While the map remains the same, some big changes have been made as part of the Call of Duty Modern Warfare and Warzone Season 4 launch. New maps are available in multiplayer, while Warzone gamers are getting to grips with the new in-game events. And as part of the new rollout, Activision is making it possible to play Modern Warfare for free this weekend. It should be noted that you will need to download Call of Duty Warzone and be up to date with the latest Season 4 version.

The free multiplayer weekend will not include the same access as the normal game, with a playlist in place for those checking it out.

The Call of Duty Modern Warfare free multiplayer weekend is live now and will be available until June 15.

The official end time has been set for around 6pm GMT in the UK, or 10am PT if you live in the United States.

The free weekend also comes with a playlist patch, which removes Plunder and Blood Money from Call of Duty Warzone.

A message from Activision adds: “Free-to-play Warzone users can experience another Multiplayer Free Access Weekend on June 12 at 10 AM PT to June 15 at 10AM PT.

“It will include the latest 6v6 Multiplayer Maps Zhokov Scrapyard and Hardhat, as well as a few other fan-favorites.

“In addition, there will also be a Gunfight playlist during the Free Access Weekend featuring seven maps primed for fun, tactical and tension-filled engagements.”

Playlist Update for our Free Access Weekend!

Modern Warfare:

  • Adding Gunfight 3v3 (replaces Blueprint Gunfight)
  • Adding Weekend Warfare, a mix of maps and game modes
  • Adding Gun Game back into the Quick Play Filter.

Warzone:

  • Removing Blood Money and Plunder* (notes updated at 11AM PST to note that Plunder is also removed)
  • Moving BR Quads and BR Solos into its own menu
  • Adding Modern Warfare Gunfight (3v3 Gunfight)
  • Adding Modern Warfare Multiplayer (a mix of maps and game modes).

It follows some big shake-ups in Call of Duty Warzone as part of the release of Season 4.

Random mid-game events can now change the flow of a game, with one of the most disruptive being Jailbreak.

This brings everyone who has been eliminated back into play, albeit with a lot fewer people sticking around.

It’s not guaranteed but it can change the dynamics quickly for those on the ground, with an extra 20 players or more popping back into a small area.

A message from Infinity Ward explains: “Events can occur during Warzone Battle Royale matches and have an impact on the strategy and approach to gameplay.

“Events can happen in any given match without advance notice. When they happen events will always occur mid-game. E.g. after the first drop kit and before the Gulag closes. Only one event type will occur in a given match, so familiarize yourself with three new event types, available at the start of Season Four – ‘Jailbreak’, ‘Fire Sale’, and ‘Supply Chopper’.

“When a ‘Jailbreak’ occurs, all players that have been eliminated will be released back into the match. Whether you were waiting for your 1v1 in the Gulag, or had been relegated to a spectator, now you’ll have another chance.

“You will get a one-minute notice before a Jailbreak event happens to find additional armour or secure a weapon for your returning teammates.

“Jailbreak events can occur any time during the middle game of a Battle Royale match, so it may be worth it to spectate, just in case. Be mindful that when a Jailbreak occurs, it’s not just your teammates that are coming back, but tons of additional enemies.”
