Harry and Meghan’s replacement: Anne takes Prince’s army job – who else will take roles?

Princess Anne has taken over Prince Harry’s role in the royal marines, according to recent reports. The Times has reported that Anne will become the first ever female captain-general of the Royal Marines.

It is Prince Phillip who is said to want Anne in the role, after Harry took it from him in 2017.

Princess Anne already has a number of military roles, and will likely relish the opportunity to make history as the first female in this one.

Harry and Meghan Markle declared their intention to step down as senior royals in early January.

This was made public alongside their decision to live in North America.

The details of their new roles are yet to have been made public, likely still being discussed behind the scenes.

However, an expert has suggested two royals that are likely to be taking on more responsibilities as Harry and Meghan step back.

Royal biographer Robert Lacey told Hello! Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie could step up. He said: “It’s quite clear that one of the consequences is that Beatrice and Eugenie will now be brought forward – if they’re willing to be brought forward.”

Unsurprisingly, Prince William is one of the royals taking on a new role.

Kensington Palace released a statement that read: “The Lord High Commissioner’s role is to maintain the relationship between the State and the Church, and a long-standing tradition of appointing a Lord High Commissioner originated in the latter part of the 16th Century.

“The person appointed to the role is a Scottish figure, whose appointment is based on merit and their contribution to society.”

“I think she wants to do more and would happily step up to the plate and take over more duties if asked.”

The Royal Twitter account highlighted Sophie’s work at several events already this year, including at the Duke of Edinburgh Award Women’s Network Forum event.

Tweets from the account read: “The forum brings together a cross-industry group of senior representatives from a variety of organisations and businesses to champion and promote gender balance and equality in the workplace.

“Girls from secondary schools across London shared their career aspirations with The Countess and their mentors, and discussed the steps they are taking to achieve their goals.”
